Make GIF
That moment,
as a GIF.
Pick a few seconds of a video.
The video stays as it was.
To turn a video into a GIF on iPhone, touch and hold the video in PicWay and tap Make GIF, or tap Make GIF in the editor. Drag to pick a moment between 0.5 and 3.9 seconds long, then save. PicWay makes a new GIF at 12 frames per second, up to 480 pixels on the long side, and puts it in an album called PicWay Conversions. Your video isn’t changed.

Three steps
How do I turn
a video into a GIF?
-
1. Make GIF
Touch and hold a video in PicWay and tap Make GIF. It’s also in the editor when you edit a video.
-
2. Pick the moment
Scroll the filmstrip to choose a stretch between 0.5 and 3.9 seconds. It starts at the beginning of the video.
-
3. Save
PicWay makes the GIF and tells you when it’s ready. Find it in the PicWay Conversions album.
Small on purpose
Why 3.9 seconds
and 480 pixels?
A GIF has no video compression, so every frame adds size. PicWay keeps the frame rate and the size in check, so a short clip doesn’t turn into a huge file in your library.
-
12 frames per second
A common GIF frame rate. Any lower and motion stutters; higher roughly doubles the size and looks about the same.
-
Up to 480 pixels
The long side is at most 480 pixels. Smaller videos keep their size.
-
Only videos
Make GIF shows up on videos. Very short clips, under a twentieth of a second, don’t get it.
Shortcuts vs. PicWay
Isn’t there a Shortcut
for this?
Apple’s Shortcuts User Guide uses a Make GIF action as an example: a shortcut you build gets your latest photos and turns them into a GIF. In PicWay there’s nothing to set up. Make GIF is right there on the video.
-
Want a Live Photo instead?
Make Live Photo sits right next to Make GIF, on the same screen.
-
Up to 3.9 seconds, you pick the stretch
A GIF is 3.9 seconds or less, and the selection starts at the full 3.9 by default. No Time Limit and speed changes are only for Live Photos.
-
A new item
The GIF is saved as a new item in your library, next to your format conversions.
